Hi, this is Charles Hoskinson broadcasting live from rough and rugged Wyoming. Always rough, always rugged—sometimes Wyoming. I'm at the ranch, and I want to make a video to talk a little bit about a variety of related topics, such as conferences, AMAs, interviews, Twitter Spaces, and just overall hanging out.
As many of you know, I have a very diverse palette of interests and businesses. Some of you, most of you, came in through the Cardano door, but a lot of you are starting to get interested in other things I'm doing. For example, I own an auto-luminescent synthetic biology company, and we're making enormous progress there. Very soon, we'll have some great announcements. I'm also invested in companies like Colossal, which are bringing back the woolly mammoth. I raise bison, and there are a lot of really cool, interesting things happening at the ranch. Additionally, we just opened a health clinic in Gillette, Wyoming, and I've also ventured into the restaurant business.
In addition to the gargantuan pile of work for Cardano, we've had some back and forth about the best way for people to engage in these topics. My style tends to be long-form, somewhat cerebral conversations. Historically, I've excelled in podcasts like The Lex Fridman Podcast or long-form interviews, where I can sit down for several hours and have a dialogue with someone. That's why I enjoy the Twitter Spaces and AMA format. You’ve probably noticed that my media appearances have been a bit sporadic; sometimes I'm on Fox Business, sometimes on Bloomberg, and I also engage with traditional media and print like The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, and the Financial Times.
What we're trying to do internally is figure out the best way to manage all that media and consistently get information out about various topics. I prefer interactive mediums. I feel that print journalism is a dying medium because it’s often very opinionated, highly biased, and usually has an agenda. It’s a one-way communication where they broadcast to you and tell you what to think, rather than allowing you to interact with me and be part of the conversation.
I think it would be prudent to take a step back and have a call to action for people who have ideas and suggestions about how to pull all of these different things together and how to run a dialogue in 2023. I'm really interested in your comments and feedback about the platforms you like using, including next-generation platforms like Gab and Mastodon, as well as the upcoming app protocol stuff that Jack Dorsey is doing. I’d also like to know your thoughts on legacy social media like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Do you prefer consuming 30-second to minute clips like YouTube Shorts, or do you enjoy long-form content? If you read articles, what publications do you prefer, and how do you like to consume them?
Also, what topics would you like me to get involved with? I will always continue to talk about Cardano, but we’re trying to structure those conversations toward specific things. For example, we have SIP 1694 coming up in July, which will include a workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland. This will be the closing workshop to aggregate feedback from the 43 SIP 1694 workshops held over the next two months. We aim to come together with a final candidate to be deployed to a testnet and voted on by the community for approval.
There will be a significant amount of discussion about SIP 1694 and plenty of opportunities to engage. That’s an example of a Cardano-oriented conversation in July. Beyond that, there will be discussions about the MBO and how to join it, as well as the future roadmap of Cardano. Conferences like Rare Bloom, CNFT Con, and the Cardano Foundation Summit in Dubai are all on the horizon in the next six months.
We’re going to be very creative in the ways we engage, but if there are other discussions you’d like to have, it would be prudent to find the best format for that. I love crowdsourcing ideas. I’m very open-source, and it makes sense to solicit feedback from the community about different tools, techniques, platforms, and topics that are important to you. My hope is to aggregate all these comments and use them to inform our internal discussions.
This is not specific to Cardano; it applies to all the endeavors I'm involved with, from looking for aliens with Avi to resurrecting extinct animals and creating plants that glow. Another thing you’ll notice is that we’ve been doing some live-action shots. JJ has been filming those, and I think he’s been doing a phenomenal job capturing moments. For example, I was with my brother recently on the ranch for Memorial Day, and JJ recorded our encounter while we were driving around in the UTV. He put it all together and made a Lo-Fi track. It’s very easy and fun to do, and it gives you a glimpse into a day in the life of what we do. Hopefully, we can keep making content like that. On the interview side, a lot of people reach out, and we’re figuring out a better way to handle that incoming flow. Usually, people PM me over Twitter, publicly invite me, or make a video call to action. That’s great and exciting, but I hope to be a bit more structured with it. I enjoy doing interviews, especially with smaller podcasts that are just getting started, as it helps them gain notoriety. However, there are also the usual suspects we go through.
